12 Traditional Polish Breads
Polish breads are a staple of the Polish diet, and there are many different types of breads that are enjoyed throughout the country. This recipe will provide instructions for making 12 traditional Polish breads, including rye bread, sourdough, and sweet breads.
Ingredients:
– 4 cups of all-purpose flour
– 2 cups of rye flour
– 2 tablespoons of active dry yeast
– 2 teaspoons of salt
– 2 tablespoons of sugar
– 2 tablespoons of butter
– 2 cups of warm water
– 2 tablespoons of sourdough starter
– 2 tablespoons of honey
– 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
– 2 tablespoons of poppy seeds
– 2 tablespoons of sesame seeds
Instructions:
1. In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, rye flour, active dry yeast, salt, and sugar.
2. Add the butter and mix until the ingredients are well combined.
3. Slowly add the warm water and mix until a dough forms.
4. Knead the dough for 10 minutes, then cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough rise for 1 hour.
5. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces.
6. For the sourdough bread, roll one of the pieces of dough into a ball and place it in a greased loaf pan.
7. For the honey bread, roll one of the pieces of dough into a ball and place it in a greased loaf pan. Then, brush the top of the dough with honey.
8. For the poppy seed bread, roll one of the pieces of dough into a ball and place it in a greased loaf pan. Then, sprinkle the top of the dough with poppy seeds.
9. For the sesame seed bread, roll one of the pieces of dough into a ball and place it in a greased loaf pan. Then, sprinkle the top of the dough with sesame seeds.
10. For the remaining 8 pieces of dough, roll each one into a ball and place it in a greased loaf pan.
11. Cover the pans with a damp cloth and let the dough rise for 1 hour.
12. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
13. Bake the breads for 30 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
14. Let the breads cool before serving.
